Use this handy checklist to better prepare for your rheumatoid arthritis (RA) infusion.
What can I do to prepare for my infusion appointment? In addition to following the checklist below, get a good night's sleep. It's important to feel relaxed, so pack a bag with anything that will help you pass the time comfortably—Sudoku, an iPod and a cozy blanket—and bring your calendar to book your next appointment.
☐ Took premeds as prescribed by my physician. These may include acetaminophen and/or an antihistamine 30 minutes prior to infusion.
☐ Drank several 8-oz. glasses of water, juice and other caffeine-free beverages.
☐ Avoided caffeine prior to infusion.
☐ Ate before my appointment and packed a snack.
Report the following to your nurse before your infusion:
☐ Any surgeries you have planned
☐ Any procedure since your last infusion
☐ Any dental work planned or completed since last treatment
☐ Any hospitalizations since last treatment
☐ Any symptoms of infection, such as fever, backache or chills
☐ Presence of a wound
☐ If you're on any antibiotics and why
☐ Any side effects you had after last infusion
☐ Any changes in medication
☐ Any overseas vacation plans
☐ Any new doctors you've seen
☐ Recent flu shot or other vaccines
☐ Any changes in insurance
