If you have gout, here are some foods to enjoy, and some to limit or avoid:
Increase:
- Bing cherries
- Celery
- Cheese
- Fresh vegetables, raw or lightly steamed (limit potatoes and corn to once or twice weekly)
Limit or avoid:
- Meat, including beef, pork, and lamb; organ meats; gravy enriched with meat extracts
- Alcoholic beverages, especially beer
- Mushrooms; legumes, including peas, beans, and lentils; vegetables such as cauliflower, spinach, and asparagus
- Seafood that contributes to high uric acid levels, including cod, anchovies, herring, and sardines; haddock and fish eggs; mussels and scallops
