Eat, drink and be wary…

If you have gout, here are some foods to enjoy, and some to limit or avoid:

Increase:

  • Bing cherries
  • Celery
  • Cheese
  • Fresh vegetables, raw or lightly steamed (limit potatoes and corn to once or twice weekly)

Limit or avoid:

  • Meat, including beef, pork, and lamb; organ meats; gravy enriched with meat extracts
  • Alcoholic beverages, especially beer
  • Mushrooms; legumes, including peas, beans, and lentils; vegetables such as cauliflower, spinach, and asparagus
  • Seafood that contributes to high uric acid levels, including cod, anchovies, herring, and sardines; haddock and fish eggs; mussels and scallops
