Rocking Crohn's Disease:Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready

Changing His Tune on Crohn’s Disease

Pearl Jam’s lead guitarist, Mike McCready, has led a rock and roll life, while suffering in secret with Crohn’s disease. Now he’s talking … and raising money for a cure.

In the Know: Skip the Juice

When taking your meds, forgo the fruit juice. Experts say a substance in juices—such as grapefruit,
orange, apple and others—may actually block or decrease the absorption of certain drugs, including those that fight heart disease, infection and more. Your best bet: Swallow your pill with a sip of good old-fashioned H2O.

In the Know: Steer Away from Seafood

Gone Fishing
It’s best to play it safe and steer away from the seafood on your menu if you go out to eat on a Monday. Unless they specialize in surf, most restaurants do not receive weekend deliveries of seafood—and fish tends to deteriorate more rapidly than poultry or meat. Save the shrimp cocktail for mid-week so you can be sure to have a fresh bite.

In the Know: Asthma & GERD

Double Burner: Asthma & GERD

Just what is it that causes a burning sensation and pressure in your chest and/or throat? It could be gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)—or it could be asthma.
