Patient Elaine S. shares how this oncology nurse navigator made a difference in her life:

"I first met Grace after I was diagnosed with breast cancer in late 2011. As I had never had much in the way of illness, and certainly no surgeries, I was not only devastated, but confused. Having no family here, I was also somewhat lacking in support. I simply did not know what to do.

Then up popped Grace. She made me feel immediately that everything was going to be OK. She assured me that she would be with me every step of the way—and she was. She got me through appointments, the many connections to be made, the many forms to be filled out, and all the while brightening up my day and making this hard thing seem really like something I could do, and do successfully.

Just about a year after my radiation treatments stopped and I was cancer free, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. But, even though Grace had first been introduced to me as a “breast navigator,” she soon found me again, and the same care and concern was there for me through two major surgeries and months of chemotherapy. Thanks to her smile, I can leave chemo with a smile on my face and hope for the future. She is fabulous!" —Elaine S.
